Adult & Child Lessons
Introduction to our Adult and Child Classes
A gentle and progressive learn to swim and water safety programme designed especially for children aged 4 to 36 months. Our goal is to teach your baby to swim and learn how to be safe around water.
Learning to swim at an early age reduces the chances of children developing fears, this in itself offers a life saving skill.
Lessons take place in a safe, positive and fun environment. We always work at each child’s individual pace with appropriate and progressive practices. Submersions and under water swimming is not included in our programme.
Children (4 months – 3 years) are accompanied in lessons by a parent/guardian. Both mum and dad are welcome at no extra charge. Swimming with your baby also gives you and/or your partner the chance to switch off and enjoy quality time with your young one. Lessons provide a calm environment to introduce children to the pleasure of being in the water. Through interactive play they learn water confidence, to participate in a social setting and to have fun!
Our courses run for between 10 – 14 weeks, depending on the school terms, although if places are available, we are happy for you to join mid-term. Children can achieve ASA Duckling Awards

FAQ
When can my baby start classes with Neptune?
Your baby can start with us when they have reached 4-6 months. Prior to this experience can be gained in the bath at home.
What can you tell me about immunisations?
Medical reports state that it is perfectly acceptable for a baby who has not been immunised to swim in a chlorinated pool. You may want to visitwww.immunisation.org.uk or should you have any doubts about taking your baby swimming, please contact your Doctor or Health Visitor for advice.
What should my baby need to wear?
Swim nappies are a good investment and are compulsory.
If I can’t swim, can I still teach my baby?
Yes! Many adults have successfully taught their children to swim using baby swimming techniques. All our lessons are held in shallow pool areas. We shall show you how to hold your baby properly in water and to help you feel relaxed and content in the class. It is very important to us that you feel just as relaxed as baby..
HEALTH AND SAFETY
FEEDING: Young babies can be fed at any time before swimming, however if your baby is eating solids, please try and leave at least 1 hour before swimming. Feel free to feed your baby after swimming.
ILLNESS: If your baby is unwell and suffering from a severe cold, chest infection, ear infection or diarrhoea, they should not be brought swimming. If you are unsure as to whether they are well enough to swim, please consult your doctor.
IMMUNISATIONS: It is not necessary for your baby to have had all injections before starting swimming, however it is advised that they have completed the triple injections, f you are unsure as to whether or not you want your baby to start swimming because of this, please discuss it further with your doctor or health visitor.
